I blinked and somehow the shops are filled with red hearts, chocolates and teddy bears. Yup, Valentine’s Day is upon us in all its garish, commercialized glory.

Even if the only thing you truly love is pizza, Valentine’s Day is a good excuse to expand your Chinese vocabulary with some romantic new words.

Here are a few useful Mandarin Chinese phrases to let your significant other know how much you care.

Qīxījié

Qixi festival (also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day)

The Qixi festival takes place on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar (August 25th in 2020). This traditional Chinese celebration of love is based on the romantic legend of the cowherd and the weaver girl.
